This northern girl is LOVING that the heat of summer is in full swing here in Texas.  One of the things I’ve been loving about living here is the abundance of fresh produce available all year long and most of it is sold at reasonable prices.

We’ve been eating our fair share of fresh fruit around here.  We love eating watermelon, peaches, pears, bananas, strawberries..well you get the idea. You know what I don’t love though?  When that same fruit goes all mushy and starts to spoil because it’s sitting in its own juice in a plastic storage container.  You know what I mean?  Now that’s not tasty at all.

Good Cook has a new bowl out on the market that addresses just that problem.  The Good Cook 3-Piece Pro Freshionals Cut Fruit Bowl is available only at Bed Bath and Beyond locations.

Make room in your fridge for it though, because this bowl is HUGE.  The three part system includes the watermelon colored insert which acts like a colander and strains the juice of the fruit into the lower green bowl.

As you can see that has a very handy spout on it to pour the liquid out should you want to reserve it in a jar, bowl or cup for something else.  The plastic lid loosely fits on top (it does not seal), which is great for outdoor parties to keep the bugs off the contents.

When I think about using a great big fruit bowl like this, my mind instantly goes to a Party Fruit Salad.  One that’s perfect to bring to a potluck, to take along on a picnic or to bribe the kids with.  Yes, that’s right, because it includes marshmallows.  No kid can resist it 😉

The berries and marshmallows make it sweet, while the cherry pie filling gives it just a hint of tartness.  It makes a tasty lower calorie dessert if you use a “Light” pie filling – and it’s a terrific alternative to ice cream on a hot summer day.  It makes about 8 – 1 cup servings.

  1. I like the idea of the bowl that's for sure! We can't get enough fruit this summer. It gets eaten before I even get my share. We've only had a few strawberries go bad due to them being left out on the counter covered with a towel. So disappointed. 🙁

  2. I am an absolute fruit addict and this recipe sounds amazing! I will definitely be pinning it to have on hand for our next gathering.

  3. It is sooo hot here in NC that sometimes you just don't feel like cooking, much less eating. Something like this is just what I need, plus I am on a diet so double score!
