My love affair with coffee didn’t quite start out that way.  Actually I started drinking coffee to make a point rather than because I enjoyed the taste.  I was 15 and working at a summer job and one of my duties was to make the coffee for the office staff.  By golly, if I was going to make the stuff, I was going to drink the stuff.  And that’s how my obsession started.

The thing is looking back, I realize that even then coffee was instrumental in creating moments of connection between myself and those around me.  Not only was I connecting with those I worked with by providing them with their caffeinated beverage, it opened up conversations around the photocopier, fax machine and tables of the break room.  It allowed me to get to know my co-workers on a deeper level and over those mugs of steaming coffee I had a few mentors give me some great advice.

Since then I’ve had the privilege of being able to share many more moments of connection over cups of coffee.  Sometimes just a quick cup in passing, other times leisurely afternoons over fancy concoctions.

Moments created with my mom where I was seeking advice on child rearing.  Creating a deeper connection with my sister as she grieved the loss of her husband.  Laughing with my best friend as we shared the antics of our daughters.  In those moments, the coffee tastes better because the fellowship enhances the flavors.  Which is just the reason I bought this print to hang on my wall.

Connecting with others while drinking coffee is the perfect complement of two activities in my opinion.  When we were house hunting in spring for the home we would buy when we moved here to Dallas, one of the things on my wish list was a place for all my coffee paraphernalia so I could create moments of connection with anyone who would walk in our door!  And I actually got that wish in the home we bought.  It’s a great little set up to make everything from a simple cup of joe to a frothy peppermint cappuccino.

Pumpkin Caramel Café Latté

Ingredients
4 ounces hot, fresh espresso or strong coffee
1/2 ounce caramel syrup (for coffees or baking – although you could substitute the ice cream kind here)
6 ounces of Coffee-mate Pumpkin Spice Creamer
Caramel ice cream syrup

Directions

1. Pour the Coffee-mate into a large mug or measuring cup and using a frother, whip it up until it is almost overflowing the mug/cup.

2. Brew the coffee and pour into another large mug.  Add the caramel syrup and stir.

3. Pour the frothed creamer into the coffee – some of the creamer should have stayed liquid and will mix in with the coffee and scoop out the remaining frothed milk on top.

4. Drizzle the caramel ice cream syrup over the foam.

  1. Love getting together with my girlfriends for coffee dates! Will be making this for our next get together!

  2. I love coffee. I really miss drinking it! I can only have decaf now and since sugar makes me sick I can't really drink coffee the way I'd like it anyway. Maybe after baby comes I can start to enjoy my decaf coffee again. I'd love this recipe as caramel is one of my favorite things EVER!

  3. I enjoy coffee more in the winter months. IN Florida, it's too hot to drink it year round.

  4. WOW now that is a coffee persons dream setup with all those choices and machines to use!!! I am more of a flavored kind of girl so this sounds delightful!!

  5. I LOVE coffee! I would just stay in bed if I knew I didn't have my Keurig waiting for me to make a cup of joe every morning. And I love pumpkin, too! w00t!

  6. I'm not a coffee drinker but that is an awesome coffee making station! I bet I could make some good hot chocolates there 🙂

  7. I am drinking a cup right now. Coffee has always brought people together. Even my mother in law still gets together with the "old hens" to have a cup of coffee.
