In case you can’t tell, I like the number 3. They say good things come in threes. I often feel like I’m being pulled in three different directons (hence, my blog name!). And of course my family is the perfect size for me, just the three of us.

So when I was told about an offer beginning today at our local Safeway affiliate store, Tom Thumb, for ‘SAVE $3 when you buy ANY THREE (3) participating Hillshire Brands products’ when using the rewards card…well I knew I would be heading there later on in the day to take advantage of it.

Not only because I could save $3 but also because we’re regular consumers of many Hillshire Brands items, like their Ball Park Meat Hot Dogs, Hillshire Farm 7-9 oz Lunch Meat and Hillshire Farm Beef Rope Smoked Sausage.  <– See??  That’s THREE!!

Like so many of you, we’re busy.  Between school stuff, church, the blogging and volunteering, sometimes I need to get food on the table in between finishing marking our daughter’s Statistics work (and for this Mama, that’s a real chore) and running out the door to get her to the library to help shelve books, or to her role-playing group, or to Biblestudy…okay you know what I’m talking about, you’re there too or have been there at one time.  So often I need to have something refrigerated on hand to whip up a quick but satisfying meal that everyone in my home likes.  Bonus that I get to save $3 this week when buying some items!

So keeping with the theme of “3”, last week I prepared a stew with the Hillshire Farm Beef Rope Smoked Sausage that cost less than $3 a serving, and you can make it in the slow cooker in 3 hours.

Beef Smoked Sausage Stew

serves 4

1 13oz Hillshire Farm Beef Rope Smoked Sausage, sliced into rounds
2 stalks celery sliced
3/4 cup white wine
1 can diced garlic tomatoes undrained
2 cans whole new potatoes – one undrained, one drained

Put the celery, wine and the can of tomatoes with its juices into the slow cooker.  Add the sausage and stir so the ingredients are mixed together.  Then add the undrained can of potatoes with its juices and the can of potatoes that has been drained, so they sit on top of the other ingredients.

Cook on high for 3 hours.  Portion out and serve.

Pretty easy, right?!  If you’re a regular reader of my blog, you know that my husband and daughter are picky eaters, and sometimes my recipes don’t go over too well with them – but this one … well, seconds were had.

The flavors of the beef smoked sausage, garlic and wine mingled nicely together and the potatoes gave it a hearty finish.

If you have a Safeway or one of their brand affiliate stores in your neighborhood, sign up for their “Just For U” program, and when you check out at the register until 10/19/13 and use your rewards card, the Buy 3, Save $3 offer on participating Hillshire Farm products will automatically be reflected on your bill.  So you’ll want to jump on this promotion quickly!

Sausage and stews (or both together!), and using my slow cooker are a couple of my favorite ways to make dinner in autumn.

I’m excited to try out some new recipes this season that I found on the Recipe page over at the Hillshire Farm website.  I have no doubt that I’ll also be stalking their Facebook page and Twitter stream to see what other kinds of promotions they’re ‘cooking’ up (ha! get it?!  Cooking up?! Alright a comedian I am not, I’ll stick to the easy meal making.)

What do you like to make for your family dinners when the weather starts getting cooler?
